Julia Gartemann

Julia Gartemann, who was born in 1975 in Westphalian Münster, has been a member of the Berlin Philharmonic since 2000.

She studied with Nobuko Imai at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold (Germany), as well as in Philadelphia (USA) under Michael Tree and Karen Tuttle at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music.

She has been awarded many prizes and scholarships from institutions such as the German Foundation Musikleben, the Jürgen-Ponto-Foundation and the German National Merit Foundation.

Julia Gartemann performs regularly as soloist and chamber musician both in Germany and abroad, a guest to major festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Lucerne and Gstaad Festivals and the Salzburg Festival.

For some years now, she has also been holding a teaching position for viola at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.

She performs on a C.F. Landolfi viola from 1767.
