Romek Maniewski
Romek Maniewski moves effortlessly as a cellist through a wide range of creative projects. He smoothly transitions between early, romantic, and contemporary music, feeling equally at home in both symphonic and chamber music repertoire. His versatility also shines in cross-over collaborations with dance, film, and theater. With his cello, he searches for lyrical melodies hidden within the folds of time and in the vibrant spaces where musical genres blend. Whether playing on gut or steel strings, Romek follows his curiosity. Yet, after each musical exploration, he always returns to the source of violin music: baroque, where he finds peace.
Romek studied at the Brussels Conservatory and later specialized in string quartet performance, including at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. Alongside his activities as an independent cellist is Romek working in education. For 15 years, he has been connected to the Borgerhout Academy, where he shares his passion for music with young people, first as a teacher and now as director. In this urban environment, where connection is essential for societal progress, Romek is committed to fostering imagination, self-awareness, and intercultural understanding.
