Stéphane Ginsburgh
Stephane Ginsburgh has been praised for his daring piano playing and appears regularly in recitals and chamber music worldwide. He has performed at numerous international festivals such as Ars Musica, Quincena Musical, ZKM Imatronic, Klara Festival, Agora Ircam, Bach Academie Brugge, Moscow Autumn Festival, Ultima Oslo, Milano Musica, Darmstadt Ferienkurse, Warsaw Autumn, Gaida Vilnius and Musica Strasbourg. He will appear this year in Festival Musiq3, Nuits Botanique, Ars Musica, Musique Action Nancy, Accademia Chigiana in Siena and Impuls Festival für Neue Musik in Halle.
A tireless surveyor of the repertoire but also exploring new combinations including voice, percussion, performance or electronics, he dedicates much of his energy to contemporary music. He plays with Ictus Ensemble and Rosas dance company. He collaborated with many composers such as Frederic Rzewski, James Tenney, Philippe Boesmans, Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Stefan Prins and Matthew Shlomowitz of whom he premiered works, as well as with choreographers such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and visual artists. Stephane Ginsburgh loves immersive performances and has recently played Prokofiev's complete piano sonatas in one evening.
Stephane Ginsburgh has recorded Sergey Prokofiev’s complete piano sonatas for Cypres Records, Morton Feldman, Erik Satie and Marcel Duchamp for Sub Rosa, and the world premiere of Anthony Burgess’ “Bad Tempered Electronic Keyboard” consisting of 24 Preludes and Fugues for Naxos Grand Piano. His last recording of Stefan Prins’ multimedia cycle “Piano Hero” is featured on an album for Kairos. After graduating from the Conservatory, he studied with Paul Badura-Skoda, Claude Helffer, Jerome Lowenthal and Vitaly Margulis. Stephane Ginsburgh holds a BA in philosophy of science, a Master in music and a PhD in Arts.
